The Village of Spencerville contracts with one private refuse company for the collection and disposal of garbage, refuse, yard waste and recyclable materials for all residential customers. Commercial and industrial accounts have the right to contract with the refuse company of their choice.
In 1990, the Village was one of the first communities in the area to initiate a recycling program. The program was started as a result of the community's success in fighting to keep a waste landfill from being constructed adjacent to the Village on the northeast quadrant of town. Recycling containers were purchased through a grant and distributed to all residential customers at no cost. To this day, recycling in Spencerville remains in effect and all residents are strongly encouraged to recycle in an effort to keep our landfills from filling too quickly.
Collection of garbage, refuse, yard waste and recyclable materials is split into two (2) days; collection for customers on the east side of Broadway Street and all customers east of that are collected on Tuesdays. Customers on the west side of Broadway Street and all customers west of that are collected on Fridays.
